Understanding The Vocal Trainer

The Better Voice Vocal Trainer is a handheld vocal training tool that uses semi-occluded vocal tract (SOVT) exercises to help singers warm up their voice more efficiently. It creates gentle back pressure that helps the vocal folds vibrate more easily and with less strain.

When you vocalize into the Vocal Trainer, the adjustable opening creates back pressure that helps balance airflow and vocal fold closure. This allows your voice to warm up more efficiently while reducing unnecessary tension.

Place the Vocal Trainer gently between your lips and perform your normal vocal warm-ups using an “oo” sound. You can do scales, slides, or simple warm-up exercises just like you would normally.

Most singers use the Vocal Trainer for 3–10 minutes as part of their warm-up routine. Many also use it during breaks or cooldowns to help reset their voice.
